Down on the Farm -- A June Jungle

Once again, we have come to the end of another month! With weeding and harvesting, freezing and preserving, (and did we mention weeding?) time flies around here at Willow Woods Garden Wonders :).  As we look back over the month of June and how things have exploded (thanking God for the bountiful rains), we realize we've grown a jungle. :)

We started off June with strawberry season. Our strawberries this year were slightly disappointing (not too many, very small, and way too many bird-pecked ones), but we made do. We tried many things to scare away birds- spinning flowers, hanging cd's on a string, hoses wrapped around like snakes, sparkly tape and even a scarecrow. (Dad obviously thought the patch looked hilarious with all that stuff flying around because he said it needed a picture! However, the birds didn't care how it looked - they found the berries and were satisfied.)

Here's our scarecrow - Johnny :) It took a while for us to get used to him, and a neighbor even confessed she waved!!

The chrysalis that we watched turned into a butterfly, and after a morning in the garage, flew away - gone forever...

lovely!

In case you can't tell from the pictures coming up, we've had a bumper crop of broccoli and cauliflower! It was a highlight of June - especially this enormous one Mom brought in one day:

that's compared to Jared's hand!

One customer said last year that we had forever ruined store-boughten broccoli for them. :)

And as you've already seen a little, Mom made time for a photo-shoot one muddy day.

working in our jungle :) WAY too many peas....

We got our kittens this month!! So cute and doing great so far! Or at least they were - until I came home today and was told that one was caught at the wrong time in the middle of a basketball game and so basically now we have three. I guess that's why we started out with four.

This one is Marner -named after Grandpa cause he loved calico cats so much!
And then we have Lemur, Cream Puff, and Coconut (who is now no longer).

Oh... and then there are the chickens. When they first came, we were in love, but not anymore. They are so fat, dirty, and ugly, to be completely honest!

baskets ready to be delivered!

and if you've never had snap peas fried in coconut oil with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top - you are missing out!

Our last radishes of the season were lovely! Great job, Jared and Lily :)

And usually, when the gardening work is done for the day, we squeeze in some time to swim in the sparkling pool!

And that's all for now! Till next month -Faith
