Moon Shine

Moon shine.... sounds like some wonderful poetic language for a beautiful moon-lit evening.

Or- moonshine, which is a synonym for homemade...well, for lack of better words- beer. Which is what we came pretty close to making last week when we were trying to make rootbeer instead.

Dave and I had to be gone for the evening, so we thought it would be a very special treat for the kids to have root beer floats with our very own homemade root beer. So, they did.

Later that evening, as the moon shone down on our (very) quiet house, Dave and I arrived home. We wanted to try that root beer for ourselves! It smelled good. It looked good.

But it did not taste good. In fact, to our inexperienced taste buds, it tasted fairly similar to an alcoholic beverage! Now, we realized that we had nearly inadvertently intoxicated our dear, sweet unsuspecting family. No wonder the house was so quiet!

Thankfully, they all woke up in the morning and were actually quite perky. We all decided we are up for trying it again, and this time checking it every day! It was "finished" way sooner than we had expected, thus the fermentation process was allowed to go on and on and on and...you know what that means. We are going to take the left over bottles from this batch to Dustin and Julie (who gave us the rootbeer kit, and are thus responsible) to try.
