Toast Masters #2

Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the first day of spring...:) We are doing pretty well here except for the sniffles, plugged noses, plugged ears, gunky eyes, and things that colds bring. We are ready to get rid of our colds and get out in the garden, but it simply refuses to feel like spring outside! I guess we need to be more patient....

It is really hard to believe, but we are already half done with our public speaking class, Toast Masters! It has gone well so far, but yes, Mom was right: her kids have been stretched a little. I'm not sure what's is harder on us; having to give a speech every week, or having to be gone one more night of the week!

The second week of Toastmasters, we all had to give a ice breaker speech in which we told all about ourselves. The third week, Jared and Lily had to do a recipe speech (Lily did how to make bread and french toast and Jared explained to the class how to make two things that he likes to build) and Marcus had to give a speech using facial expressions and actions (he told about the time he fell into a fish pond in Texas).  I had to give a speech on how to control your nervous butterflies when you give a speech which was a little bit of an interesting topic, but it went OK. This past week, we all had to give a demonstration speech. Jared showed his class how to draw  the front of a semi and then had his classmates try their hand at it, and Lily showed her class how to make a s'more parfait and then let them all try it. Marcus took his guitar in and played some for his class and talked about the guitar and what he plays, and I demonstrated to my class how to sew a Little Dress for African or Haitian girls.

Here Lily is making her pudding in front of her class

Jared is showing his class how to draw a semi.

And Marcus is talking to his class about his guitar.

I personally have really enjoyed this class. I am more of a shy and reserved person and so I was a bit nervous about it at first, but I have really gotten to liking it! We are all really proud of Lily because she has done really well even though the first time she couldn't even say her name! I wouldn't suggest asking the boys what they thought of it because, you know, they are boys and they would probably tell you that it is pathetic that they have to write and present a speech each week, but I think that deep down they really are enjoying it :)! Hopefully we make it through the next four weeks and end the class with better public speaking abilities!! -Faith
