Another annual Leman Vacation in the books! This year did not disappoint. The location for 2017 was Grinell, Iowa as it seemed to be at relatively equal driving distances for everyone. We started arriving on Friday evening, and enjoyed the beautiful weather and the big lawn outside the hotel playing several different active games. When it started getting dark and buggy, we reunited indoors for some singing, sharing, and more games (including a LV favorite: the animal sound game. No group plays it better. Right, Gabe? :)).
Saturday morning, after group pictures and breakfast, we packed up and headed out to Rock Creek State Park just a few minutes away. The group split up for the morning and enjoyed various activities such as hiking, Frisbee golf, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boating.
At noon, we met back up at the pavilion for a picnic!
After lunch, we headed to the beach area of the state park. While we had a lovely morning with perfect temperatures and lovely sunshine, the clouds hid the sun in the afternoon, and it wasn't quite so warm once we got in the water :). We spent a little time there, but before long packed up and trekked back to the hotel.
Saturday afternoon was sent in a variety of ways: swimming at the hotel, napping, playing games, a senior photo session, visiting, etc. Later on in the evening, we all met back up for supper.
After dinner, we split up into teams and took over that poor little town of Grinell in the first ever LV Road Rally!! It was great fun and got everyone involved - from Grandpa all the way down to Kenan (perhaps Grandpa got a little too involved?!? thankfully, it was just a warning...:)). From ordering burgerless burgers and telling knock-knock jokes, to wandering the halls of foreign nursing homes and belting Amazing Grace downtown, I'm sure we looked a little odd :). It was a hit though... maybe a new tradition?
Mom and Dad got to stay back and watch Ivory and Titus since they were the ones who put the road rally together!
On Sunday, the majority of us attended church in Iowa city (nearly doubling their usual number of people!) before it was time to go our separate ways.
And that's the end of the recap! We've got another year's worth of great memories stored up, though:). We owe a big thanks to Grandpa and Grandma and everyone who helped plan it! Till next year...:)
