Michigan Weekend #1

Since our 2017 family vacation is not scheduled to happen until October again this year, a couple of summer weekend trips were of necessity to get us through till then :). Ironically, they both ended up being to Michigan: one this past weekend, and one yet to come in July!

Remember our trip last summer to Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan (read about it here)? Well, because we are a fairly large family, the option of purchasing a year membership was more economical to get into the village rather than buying individual tickets. So, we had to use it one more time before it expired, of course! Also, because of some different circumstances, we had a few extra free tickets. So,this time, we were thrilled to have the neighbors join us for the trip (big thanks to other great neighbors who did the chores and even checked the house in the middle of a rainstorm)!

We traveled out as a family on Saturday and enjoyed supper together and then swimming for a while in the evening. We met up with the Edelmans on Sunday morning and enjoyed spending the day with the Detroit church! One of the families there was so kind to host us for supper as well. Oh, and Dad (and some of the rest of us!) got a tour of the nursing home there :).

the church was so welcoming and nestled in the most picturesque place :)

On Monday, we put in a big day at the village - and still missed quite a lot! We were thankful the weather wasn't too hot and although it did rain a little bit, it was near the end of our day there and we happened to be in a sheltered area anyway! Here is a picture recap: but as we said last year, the best thing to do would be to visit yourself :).

By late afternoon it was time to bid farewell to the quaint little village and head back home. It was great to get a way for a few days and enjoy some fun! Now, we have Michigan trip #2 to look forward to :).
