BLT

Well, this may turn out to be quite the post once I'm finished documenting all the hodge-podge of life lately, but we needed something to update this blog, so here goes... :)

I could've probably gotten by with titling the post BLTSRC... and so on, but I decided to simplify it to BLT. 1) because it will be easier to document and read, and 2) because we have discovered that BLT's (meaning, in this instance: Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato) for lunch are one of our favorite ways to eat fresh tomatoes!!

BLT's ready to go as soon as the bacon comes out of the oven, thanks to Jared :).  oh and just as a side note... lunch preparation doesn't always look like this. In fact, this is pretty rare....

To categorize all the other tidbits of life here recently:

B - Being done with farmers market and vegetable baskets has been reason to celebrate around here! The garden season went well this summer, but when school starts on top of it, we all breathe a sigh of relief when it ends :). We can't completely celebrate yet though - still have to tackle all the garden clean-up...

we loved our bell pepper crop!! (still harvesting those, actually, amongst some other things)

Beautiful rainbows! After some bad wind and a downpour this afternoon, Mom and Jared encountered a lovely rainbow across the sky on the way home from Bloomington!

L - For Marcus and I, Labor day weekend was packed with friends and worship! We had an awesome turnout for our young group invite and enjoyed hosting guests!

loved hosting you, girls!! I keep randomly laughing at funny memories - too bad you weren't here to laugh with me... :)
On Labor Day, we planned to spend the whole day at home working and doing school (exactly what everybody else is taking a break from on Labor day. hmmm.... ). Our plans got changed a little, though, when some dear out-of-town friends texted and said they were driving through Fairbury and wanted to meet for pizza! Worked out great - we'll have to do that more often! :)

On Saturday, We hosted a Luncheon for G+G and their Grandpa's Fehr cousins! We enjoyed doing the food and decor, and provided some musical entertainment, too :).

While the rest of us enjoyed our weekend filled with friends, singing, and so on, Dad struggled through it and actually avoided church on account of his Longterm illness. I feel so bad for him! It started with a nasty chest cold, but has flared up his asthma and he can't get over it... hopefully soon. While he's down though, his old self is surely missed - even by his SS students! :)

T- We couldn't talk about "T" without mentioning Tomatoes.... :) We have finished picking our patch and are getting to the last of the fresh ones - thank goodness! In case you still have fresh tomatoes, though, we thought we'd share a favorite recipe (aside from BLT's:))

Roasted Tomatoes:
Slice tomatoes and lay out on a cookie sheet. Pour olive oil on top and sprinkle with garlic salt/powder, basil, sea salt, and cracked pepper. Place in oven at 300 degrees for three hours or so, until crispy and roasted. Best eaten right out of the oven :)

(these are Kenan's latest favorite snack :))

The last Tidbit I have, is about my Toe and it sure isn't as exciting as everything else we usually post on here:). A bike-ride in flip-flops the other night with Lils, resulted in a sliced toe which was actually pretty major. We opted for no stitches since it is in a place that I don't care if there is a scar. But as a result, it's taking quite awhile to heal. Thanks to mom and her nursing license, hopefully we can pull through it soon! I'm thankful it wasn't any worse and that we weren't too far from home when it happened!!

When I told a lady at work what had happened - that I was riding in flip-flops, etc- she quickly replied, "you want your lecture now or later?!" :) I guess now I know that there is risk in riding in flip-flops... sigh. At least I wasn't barefoot!

Another funny.... I took lettuce to one of the suppers this past weekend with the young group. When we got home, mom and us girls were just chatting and laughing about lots of things, but when mom was ready to go to bed she told me to 'just take the dressing off but keep the butterflies on'. We all stared at her quite confused since we didn't bring any lettuce home, it's impossible to remove dressing from lettuce anywas, and what did butterflies have to do with it?! Then we all realized that by dressing she meant 'bandage' and was referring to the butterfly bandages when she said butterflies:) We laughed hysterically :)

And that sort-of sums up all the bits and pieces of our first couple weeks of school :). We're hoping Dad can recover soon and my foot can heal quickly, and that we can keep trying to rejoice in this moment today!! :) -faith
