This past weekend we learned what flexibility means: willing or disposed to yield, pliable. For weeks, even months our family had been looking forward to going to Kentucky with the Stoller's to a cabin where we would meet the Knapps for a couple of nights. We were all REALLY looking forward to it!
Well... plans changed. We thought it was one big joke at first, but it wasn't. It was real.
Bryan's aunt passed away unexpectedly, and the funeral was scheduled for Saturday: the main day of our wonderful weekend together. We were all really bummed that Stoller's wouldn't be able to come. But we started making plans with the Knapp's and decided to still go, but cancel the cabin, and plan on spending just Saturday night at a hotel. We had a great time, of course, but it wasn't same as what we were looking forward too - we missed you, Stoller's!! But, that's what flexibility means, right?
We started our little trip early Saturday morning. Seth had come out to IL the weekend before so he traveled with us. Traveling went really smooth which makes a short trip like this one so much better! It took us 6 1/2 hours to get to the State Park where we were meeting, and we only stopped once :).
We arrived at the State Park at 1:00, and soon after the Knapp bus arrived :). We hiked around for a couple of hours - thankful for another (fairly) beautiful fall day!!
| catching up on the past two months :) |
We then checked into our hotel, did some swimming, and then went to some friends' house for supper! Jeff and Cynde and their family just moved to Nashville, so it was great to see them there! We enjoyed a wiener roast with some other families from church and then went back to the hotel for the night...
But we didn't go to bed right away :). We stayed up late playing games - trying not to laugh in one game, and laughing really hard in the next :) (which was really TU-pid).
Sunday we spent the day at Nashville church. It was great to go to a new church and meet all the people there- and Matt sure picked the perfect tie to wear!! :) After church, our short trip had come to a close, and it was time for the buses to part ways. They did catch up with us on the interstate for a little bit, but after one last duck face from the passenger seat, we went in opposite directions.
We get to re-reserve the cabin anytime without losing any money, so hopefully, we'll be able to go sometime like we had planned. But for now, we're thankful for the short weekend getaway that we did get - thanks for meeting us, Knapps!
| it's so great how we can go months without seeing you- but jump right back into the same, awesome, friendship! :) |
Somehow meeting in Nashville made the miles not seem quite so big.... Till next time, Knapps!! |
