This and That; Here and There

At first, we thought we'd just post about the little things that have been filling up the not so lazy summer days since we last posted... and then we realized that it was actually mostly pretty big things. We don't need this much drama all the time, but when God's the Director, we will take what comes....

After a {very} big day of serving approximately 700 people for church lunch (in case you wondered, it actually went really well - many great hands make light work!), we kept Ned and Heidi's family overnight! It sounds crazy but it wasn't that bad - they helped us bake and get baskets ready on Monday and then left in time for a visitation Monday afternoon (plus, they helped us eat up all those church leftovers- and didn't appear to care that they were being served just that).

It certainly added some delight and charm to our Monday morning (nevermind that we didn't sleep much before Monday morning got started)!

Lena's birthday was Monday! (notice the leftover doughnut :))

It was cold and terribly windy, but they just had to have water anyway...

Lily had a blast with Lena and Josie :)

Ellie, Ivy, and me :)

their whole family
After their family left, the rest of the week seemed to disappear in that VBS blur anyone with a family understands.  But we did take a little time to watch something amazing!! Right when we sat down for lunch one day, the caterpillar that was camping out in a jar on our table decided to turn into a chrysalis - right there in front of us!! This truly was drama in real life...
It's honestly too incredible to describe with words...
it was so neat that we got to watch it!

Early Friday morning, Mom, Dad, Marcus and I quietly slipped out of the house and headed to Naperville for the ICHE homeschool convention. It was an awesome day!! Lot of things to think about :) We spent the night (FYI: to be completely accurate, we only slept in the wee morning hours...) at a hotel with Knapps and Stollers. We played a few games and just enjoyed being together and making more memories :) I'm hoping we didn't wake any of our neighbors up with all of the noise we made, but if they were anything like some of our party, it shouldn't have mattered much! :) :)

Damaris stayed with the rest the younger kids, and they had lots of fun too! Damaris is an awesome babysitter - she stayed with all of us last year and was our babysitter when we moved here and for a nice long time.

We enjoyed the lovely weather and dazzling sunshine on Saturday with more special people. We hit Deerfield on our way home to have an 8th grade 'graduation party' for Grace and me - but really it was just an excuse to get together :)

some games of bag-o...

And lots of good food :)

gorgeous weather and a lovely setting

paddle boating and kayaking on the lake!!

Grace and I - the 'graduates' I suppose :)

the younger kids enjoyed a little splash of fun :) Jared, Lily, and Kenan were so bummed they had to miss it!

We've still been gettin' our 30 minutes of weeding in each day when it's not rainy (or maybe when it is rainy...) and all our harvesting has been keeping us busy as well. We had an outstanding farmers market on Wednesday!! So rewarding!
rather deceiving since we are not enjoying a bountiful harvest of berries this year, even though the birds are!
green, green- all things green. smoothie, anyone?

So, that's our drama in real life- a mix of big things and little. And behind the scenes always: God.
