The Last Peach

Who would have ever guessed we'd still be eating peaches into November- our own homegrown fresh peaches?? Amazing!

Most people had an abundance of fruit this year and we were no exception. Our peach trees bore from the first of August until our last picking the end of September. That picking was enough to fill a drawer in our fridge for us to eat from through the next month and even into November. We just now emptied the drawer and have to accept the last of the peaches.

Peaches are touchy- if its too cold during the winter, or, like any other fruit-bearing tree, if there is a late spring frost, then we have to accept a summer without them. That was the case last year. So the trees were good and ready to bear a summertime bumper crop this year. We ate and froze and ate and canned and ate and baked and ate and drank and ate and dried and ate and then finally, after being inspired by A. Dawn who used our peaches to make jam, we made some as well. It was a hit!

And so, now we will be eating our peaches all winter, too.
