Earlier this month, Mom and Dad were able to squeeze in a two-day get-away. Us kids were stuck home. But before you start to feel sorry for us, let me tell you all about it!
A good friend and our old babysitter, Damaris, came and spent the time with us. Mom left us a whole long list - of course - but we managed to squeeze in some fun too :)
On Friday, after we got some cleaning and other chores done, we went to the Country Cupboard's Grand Opening, and then came home and decorated cupcakes wtih the candy we bought!

On Saturday for breakfast, Marcus tried to make Grandpa's famous Big Pancakes (crepes). They weren't exactly like Grandpa's, but they were good, and it was nice of him to take the initiative :) Later, Kenan was pretending to talk on the phone with Mom and Dad. He says, "Yea, big pancakes, and Kenan not want broken one, but..... Kenan got broken one." It was so cute!
We picked strawberries on Saturday, and then froze them for smoothies. In the evening, we went out for pizza and then to the park with Damaris' family!
We met Mom and Dad in church on Sunday morning, and our family was reunited again!! We had a good time while Mom and Dad were away, but we were glad to have them back! Thank-you Damaris for all you did - we had a great time with you! -Faith
Dave and I enjoyed an inspiring day at the homeschool convention in Naperville, IL. Always a huge day, but so worth it! We ate supper with (great) friends before parting ways and heading to our hotel for the next two nights.
Saturday morning, we drove down the road to the Morton Arboretuem. The weather was absolutely perfect. We rented bikes and enjoyed the lovely trails and paths in and out of trees, around quaint gardens, past streams and through prairies and meadows. God's handiwork was so evident!
Beside the snake that stuck his head out right in front of my sandalled feet in the prairie, just to remind me, there was (hardly) anything to keep me from thinking I was almost in heaven.
Sometime during the afternoon, we left the arboretuem and drove around the area to do a little shopping together, before retiring to our room to relax. Reality was right around the corner and we needed to get a good night's rest so we'd be ready! (well, that was my excuse for turning in early, Dave doesn't need one)
It was so good to see the kids again in church and so thankful that they enjoyed their time at home as much as we did away.
Before long, we will be going away again- all of us this time!
Better get to bed- we leave tomorrow....
