Our Summer Vacation this year was truly a blast! We had so much fun and didn't want to come home just yet! We left our house on Friday June 8, and headed for Akron, OH. We actually stopped at Ed and Rhonda's (Rhonda is Mom's cousin) house in Bluffton and spent some time with them and their children. We arrived at Joe and Carla's house where we spent Friday night. They have three children; Trina (11), Landon (9) and Javan (6). Saturday we got up and had breakfast with Dad's cousin and her family, and then went to Holmes County with our friends from Akron. We had a great day sight-seeing and enjoying some different activities together.
An Amish family baling hay
In the morning we went to a museum about Amish and Mennonite Heritage, and then we had lunch at a HUGE Amish Restaurant. After lunch, we went to a place called Rolling Ridge Ranch. It is a big ranch owned by an Amish family. Everybody gets one bucket of feed, and you take a wagon tour through eighty acres. As you drive by different animals, you hold out your bucket, and the animals will come eat right out of it! We fed ostriches, Zonkeys (a mix between a zebra and a donkey), a Texas longhorn, Zebras, and much more!
Sun. Morning we went to another one of our friends' house for breakfast and then went to Akron for church. After church we headed for Hocking Hills, OH. We were all a little antsy to get there and see what our house, that we would be staying in for three days, was really like! We finally arrived and fell in love with Frank's Country Cottage immediently! There was a hot tub, two picnic tables, two porch swings, a pond, and even trails to hike on. We had 40 acres to romp around on!
Sun night the boys were very eager to go and fish in the pond so they took their fishing poles and cast them into the water. Within 30 seconds of Jared's pole being in the water, he pulled out a fish! Here it is:
Monday morning, when we woke up it was raining and we were a little worried since the forcast predicted thunderstorms and rain all day Mon, Tues, and Wed, and cause just about every vacation we go on, it rains. But, we spent the morning and some of the afternoon swimming in the hot tub, playing games and just relaxing.
In the late afternoon, after the rain stopped, we went and scouted out Hocking Hills State Park. We hiked Old Man's Cave and loved the majesty of it and the stone bridges!
On Tues. our good friends Mark and Brenda joined us and we all went hiking together! Afterwards they came back to our house and we had supper together.
Tuesday night we watched a movie called Dolphin Tale. It was such a good movie and the whole family enjoyed it!
Wed. morning we left pretty early and did more hiking. At the end, we let Kenan get out of his carrier to walk. He loved it! We gave him the map and he just trotted ahead of everybody! It was so cute!

Thursday, we spent the day at the Creation Museum! It is a great place!
We had a great time, but all great things must come to an end! We arrived home Thursday night, and of course there was plenty of things to be done Friday! Thank you to anyone who helped keep the homefront looking nice including feeding the animals, taking care of the gardens, and keeping the pool water clear! We really appreciate it!
For anyone who is interested, we highly recommend Frank's Country Cottage as a great vacation spot. We could have spent much more time there! To find more details go to: Frank's Country Cottage

Did you know? Carla was the first person I called when I began repenting?
ReplyDeleteWe LOVED Hocking Hills, we camped there 2 years ago.
We've also been to the Rolling Ridge Ranch.
We'd like to do it all again!
