I read a book about the Muldie boys. They were really brave. They were in Kentucky. Their dad decided to move west. They traveled all the way to Kansas. But he wanted to move further west and get better land. So, he left his sons all alone while he got more land. They were 11, 8 and 3. They took very good care of one another. One day, they were picking berries when the sky became orange. It was a prairie fire! They didn't know what to do until they saw a deer run to the lake. Then they ran as fast as they could. Little brother had a wagon and he rode in that. Everybody was following them. When the fire was done, they went back to their home. After several months, they got a letter from their father. It showed where he was. They followed the map and the river and then they saw the deer trail they were supposed to follow! They wondered if it was right, but it was. Then suddenly, there was a big hill. They went up it a ways, and saw a little cabin with a garden and a man. It was their father. They had journeyed a hundred and fifty miles alone and had made it safely, even escaping rattlesnakes and panthers. Wow. -Jared
PS The title of this book is called, Wagon Wheels, and it is a level 3- mom told me that means "complex plots for confident readers." I like that.
