Rise and Shine

This is where I found each of the kids at the start of my day today:

It would have been pretty hard to miss Kenan, since he was yes, in the middle of my bed. He started on the floor right beside me because he had had a croupy sound yesterday morning and I was afraid he was planning to repeat the scare of last year. In the middle of the night, he sat up suddenly and cried out that he was scared. I settled him down right where he was and tried to go back to sleep (I was working on that all night actually) when he immediately sat back up and cried out that he was scared. I settled him back down again, only to find him soon standing beside my bed, crying,  "I am still not happy!" (neither was I, for that matter). So up and over and into our bed he came.

My other two sweet sons, one tall, one short, were busily whipping up a delicious breakfast in a torn apart kitchen, listening to a loud audiobook all the while. Dusty wallpaper bits and flecks don't phase these boys a bit when it comes to filling up their hungry stomachs.

Here's Lily, sleeping in the chair for the third night in a row to help prevent nighttime coughing. It wasn't helping last night. She coughed regularly from 1 am to 5 am, which was why I was trying to fall asleep all night and another reason why Kenan got his own way middle of the night. She had finally stopped by now and we let her sleep as long as possible.

And here's Faith, starting her day off right (but still in bed!)

Where's Dave, you might wonder? He was at work, unavailable for a photograph, having left early to get a bit in before coming home to work more on our kitchen remodel project (more of that to come) for the rest of the day. I had just crawled back into bed when he came in to say good-bye. I really meant to speak a loving farewell, but nothing connected between my brain and lips. I did have a pretty good excuse....

So, it was with a small amount of frustration that I heard my cell phone ring a few minutes later. I had been just about to fall asleep for the night.

"I'm in the ditch. Can you come get me?" That took a bit to compute. It was only 5:15, afterall, but somehow I hauled myself out of bed and got down the road to pick up my stranded husband, who was very much in the ditch. (this did nothing to strengthen his sentiment towards winter weather, just in case you wondered).

I never did go back to bed. Dave got the Good Neighbor (the one State Farm was thinking of) to pull him out and soon he was at work. Next time he calls needing me to rescue him, hopefully I'll have had a better night's sleep and can at least ask if he's okay first. He did respond really really nice to me when I had to call him the other day to say that I had done something to the van (and since I'm the editor, I don't need to say what that was), so now I am feeling pretty guilty.

So, fully awake by now, I was really ready to start my day. And good thing because it was continuing whether I was ready or not. Now to see what the rest of the day brings...
