Recently, Mom found a recipe on the internet for Baked Apples. We tried it one day for supper, and it was really good!
Crock-pot Baked Apples
Ingredients:
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 walnuts, chopped (we used peanuts)
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Six apples cored
1/2 cup apple juice of cider
Directions:
Preheat a large crock-pot on high heat and preset it for three hours. In a large bowl, mix brown sugar, walnuts, butter, and cinnamon. Fill the cored apples and place them in the crock-pot. Pour in juice or cider. Cover and cook 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until apples are soft and begin to collaspe.
O.k. Now for the failure, well a couple of years ago Mom canned some pumpkin and it all exploded. She did some research, and every website said not to can pumpkin (even though she had been doing it for years perfectly fine). Well she really likes canned pumpkin so this year she decided to try again. She did eight jars and watched them for a week or so. Nothing happened so she decided to do it again. She canned eight more jars about a week ago and then thirteen on Monday. Guess What Happened?? Dad spotted a jar that looked a little funny and sure enough, it was popped and ready to explode. Thankfully, the first batch is still fine! Its like a living, reacting beast in a jar that keeps growing and growing. Explanation, anyone? -Faith
