Dissecting 101

Yippee! Another home school class at the Children's Discovery Museum! What we did this time was quite different than what we have done before. We started the class with watching a movie of how to dissect the cow's eye. I was pretty nervous when I walk into the classroom, and I think Marcus would have to admit he was too! After the movie we each paired up with someone (Marcus was my partner) and got a cow eye together. When we had gotten all the jelly stuff (virtuous humour to be exact) out and all the fat cut off, we found the lens and could actually use it as a magnifying glass! When we had finished our eyeball, we headed next to a frog. The cow's eye didn't smell very bad but the frog did a little bit. The first step on the frog was to pop the arms and pin them on to the Styrofoam. I hated it!! We could really do whatever we wanted to on the frog and it was a neat experience to see it's organs. When the frogs were cleaned up, we smelled the wonderful smell of fish! We each got our own perch fish and I found the fish lens. It was much smaller and harder than the cow's lens and was much like a pearl. To make a four hours short, we next did a fetal pig! Gross!! On the fetal pig, we found the small intestine and started unwinding it. It got longer and longer and longer and longer! It was quite a day and while Marcus and I were in class, the three Little's and mom enjoyed tromping around the children's Museum! What Fun! -Faith
